Once i had the profound experience of being zoomed by a hummingbird on the top of my head and again recently, a number of times the same way, just out our back door where we live. These delightful wee beings are quite something to be in the presence of. I love watching how they zoom about and how fast they can fly in any direction at a moment’s notice. I also love the clicking and buzzing sounds they make too. I often wonder what sounds they make that we humans can’t audibly perceive.
Hummingbirds can teach us about living within the joy of the present moment, to drink directly from the divine nectar of life. I believe they show up, especially when they zoom or click, reminding me to just get out of my ‘head’ and connect back into my heart. And, oh i’ve been needing that reminder of late… to stop worrying about ‘what’s next’ and just be within the present moment. All is well.
I wrote this poem (below) back in 2005 when i was zoomed by a hummer in a joyous heartfelt way and was moved to write a poem about that ‘moment’. Hope you enjoy!
quickening (my power song) to gather energy at a moment’s notice hovering within the mother’s arms gently rocking side to side cradled light sound envelopes my whole being humming humming letting go straight to the heart as far as one can go catching the breath of spirit to allow and let go with total trust and knowingness as i fall willingly i am nurtured and loved within the ever present great mother she is i am one in the all together flying in completeness and just knowing joy is the song as i am the singer and the song i soar!
