For many years, i was a drum-maker + also guided many others to birth their own drums. I believe i birthed/guided over 500 drums into being including numerous rattles. I loved the process of birthing drums…being a mindful, intuitive and deep inquiry practice. In inquiry, i would allow the sprit of the hide and wood to inform me, letting me know what was to become into being. Often a deer would show up in our yard just at the right time i was about to birth a drum. I really loved this alignment, as i also felt very supported in an animistic way.
I was forced to stop my practice of birthing drums because of my limited mobility and also having lost my wonderful studio space, when we had to move over a year ago. Hence why i am now embracing my watercolour practice + continuing my music and especially writing practice…
below, is another haiku i wrote in relation to this work…
weaving my soul in
my deer heart re-membering
voice of my mother
